I wrote a little Christmas song--all you musicians out there--how about a melody to go with it? In my head it is in 3/4 time.
Nativity Song
Perhaps you are a searcher born
Looking for something that's just beyond sight.
Feeling a darkness gather and form
Following, clinging to a star's distant light.
Or perhaps you are humbly just tending what's yours,
Lost in the crowd or far off on your own.
Wondering if God cares about you and your chores
Till heaven's song finds you and sings in your bones.
Chorus:
So come all ye children--come one and come all
Come follow what's calling you to Bethlehem.
Bring what you can, bring who you are
To the cradleside of the Savior of Men.
Perhaps you are like a dutiful beast,
Uncomplaining and willing to lift the hard loads.
With a back that is bowed, with a brow that is creased--
To serve and to carry, to travel hard roads.
Perhaps you are someone whose sure there's no space.
You think about turning your back, but instead
You will make room for them, you'll find a place
Even if just a stable with straw for a bed.
Chorus:
So come all ye children--come one and come all
Come follow what's calling you to Bethlehem.
Bring what you can, bring who you are
To the cradleside of the Savior of Men.
